On December 27, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed more than 50 lakh property cards to owners in over 46,000 villages across 200 districts in 10 states and 2 Union Territories under the SVAMITVA Scheme.

Empowering Rural Property Owners

The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) Scheme aims to provide rural property owners with official documentation of their property rights. By utilizing drone technology for mapping, the scheme ensures accurate property delineation, reducing disputes and enabling owners to leverage their assets for economic benefits.

Prime Minister's Address

During the virtual event, PM Modi emphasized the transformative impact of the SVAMITVA Scheme on rural India. He stated, "This initiative empowers our rural population by providing them with legal property rights, fostering economic growth, and enhancing self-reliance." The Prime Minister also highlighted the government's commitment to leveraging technology for transparent and efficient governance.

Beneficiary Experiences

Beneficiaries from various states shared their experiences during the event. Many expressed that possessing official property documents has enabled them to access loans and other financial services, which were previously out of reach. Others noted a significant reduction in property disputes, leading to a more harmonious community environment.

State Participation

The event witnessed participation from states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, along with the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. State officials acknowledged the scheme's role in streamlining property records and enhancing rural infrastructure development.

Future Prospects

The government plans to expand the SVAMITVA Scheme to cover all villages nationwide by 2025. This expansion is expected to further integrate rural areas into the formal economy, providing residents with increased opportunities for economic advancement.

Conclusion

The distribution of over 50 lakh property cards under the SVAMITVA Scheme marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to empower rural India. By granting legal property rights, the initiative not only enhances individual economic prospects but also contributes to the broader goal of national development.
